GREEN TIPS MARCH 2017
Time to start thinking about spring cleaning? This month we’ll focus on non-toxic ways to do that from the eartheasy.com. This Month: Homemade Cleaning Solutions:
1. White Vinegar cuts grease, removes mildew, odors, and wax build-up.
2. Cornstarch can be used to clean windows and polish furniture.
Rust Remover: Sprinkle a little salt on the rust, squeeze a lime over the salt until it is well soaked. Leave mixture for 2-3 hours & use leftover lime rind to scrub. No-scratch scouring powder: apply baking soda directly with a damp sponge.
In place of paper towels or sponges, try Skoy Eco-Cleaning Cloths which are 15 times more absorbent that paper towels, reusable, and biodegradable. Go to eartheasy.com, click on “Shop”, and type “Skoy cleaning cloths” in the search box. They can also be found at several local retail outlets. They’re very reasonably priced, too.
Many of our modern homes are airtight to conserve heat and air-conditioning, resulting in poor indoor air quality. Exchange indoor air regularly by opening the windows from time to time. For maximum energy efficiency in cold weather, open windows and doors for about 5 minutes. The furnishings and walls act as “heat sinks”, and by exchanging air quickly this heat is retained.
